Children's Liturgy of the Word is held every Sunday at the 10:30 am Mass from September - May with some exceptions noted below. Children between the ages of 4 and 10 are invited to participate.
Liturgy of the Word for Children will not be held: The Sundays of Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends, the Sunday between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and Easter Sunday. When New Year's Day falls on a Saturday, there will be no Liturgy of the Word for Children on January 2.
A parent should register their child between 10:10-10:25 am at the Children's Liturgy table in the Gathering Space. All children participating, should be registered prior to the start of Mass. The child, or a volunteer will write their name on a name tag and then the family should proceed into Mass.
Just before the start of the Liturgy during Mass, participating children will be called up to the altar and then they will proceed to the Chapel. For 15 to 20 minutes, they will learn about that week's Gospel at a level that is easily understood by them. Each child receives an age-appropriate Children's Worship Bulletin filled with activities that relate to that week's Gospel. Following the Creed and Prayers of the Faithful, the children are reunited with their parents at Mass.
During the week that follows, an email is sent to the child's parents reviewing the topic that was discussed during the Children's Liturgy.
7th and 8th grade students may receive service hours for assisting the Children's Liturgists with the children before and during the Children's Liturgy of the Word. Click here for more information.
